Cricket News: Which teams will play in the 2023 ODI World Cup Qualifier tournament? | List of teams in the 2023 ODI World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe, Netherlands, Scotland, Nepal and Oman are confirmed as the first five teams to participate in the 2023 ODI World Cup Qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe in June.

The Zimbabweans and Dutch are in the qualifier tournament from the Super League, with three others to join them from that competition. Scotland, Oman and Nepal finished as the top three teams in the ICC League 2 tournament, with the Nepalese sealing their passage thanks to an incredible 11 wins in their last 12 matches.

A further two teams from ICC League 2 will participate in the qualifier. The United States of America, Namibia, United Arab Emirates, Jersey, Canada and Papua New Guinea will face off in the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier Playoff tournament to be played in Namibia between March 24 and April 5.

Nepal seal passage to qualifier in Zimbabwe

The story of the day is Nepal’s brilliant achievement. They beat UAE in a thriller with Duckworth/Lewis coming into play due to bad light, after Asif Khan’s blistering 42-ball 101* took UAE to an imposing 310/6.

An estimated 20,000 supporters packed out the TU International Cricket Ground at Kathmandu to witness a great moment in Nepali cricket. The team finished on 269/6 after 44 overs to win by nine runs on DLS, sparking scenes of sheer jubilation.

Which teams from the ODI Super League will play in Zimbabwe?

Three teams out of West Indies, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Ireland will feature in qualifier tournament. Sri Lanka will qualify for the World Cup in India if they win all their matches in New Zealand, but South Africa are the favourites given they have two home matches against the Netherlands. 2023 ODI World Cup Qualifier format

A total of ten teams will participate in the qualifier in Zimbabwe. In addition to the first five teams confirmed above, three from the Super League and two from the Qualifier Playoff will join them.

Out of the ten nations, just two will progress to the World Cup in India.

In the tournament itself, there will be two groups of five. The top three teams in each group will qualify to the Super Sixes, whereby the top two teams will advance to the final and thus qualify for the 2023 World Cup.
