New Zealand veteran batter Sophie Devine carved out a belligerent knock for Royal Challengers Bangalore. The franchise earned its second win after thumping Gujarat Giants to an eight-wicket victory. Overwhelmed by the response from the fans, Devine stated that she would cherish the affection following her blistering innings.

Mandhana-led RCB desperately required a win against Gujarat, and Devine rightfully stepped up and owned the game through and through. Clobbering 99 runs off just 36 balls, Devine garnered massive praise from every corner of the stadium. With this, the opener stated that the affection would ‘stay’ with her for a long time.

“I’m so used to hearing chants for (Ellyse) Perry and (Smriti) Mandhana, and was feeling a bit left out. To hear your name and experience this atmosphere, it will stay with me for a very long time,” told Devine to Sports18.

Was pretty happy with the 94m six: Sophie Devine

Devine etched numerous records during her stay in RCB’s sensational win against Gujarat. Notably, the veteran batter hoicked a massive 94-metre six into the stadium’s second tier in the ninth over from Tanuja Kanwar. Devine recalled the maximum and said she was delighted to have struck the ball to perfection.

“I think the one I got up there (into the second tier) I was pretty happy with. Cricket can be so fickle. I’ve been struggling for six to nine months if I have to be completely honest. To have some freedom on these wickets was good,” she added.

Adding to this, she also notched up her fifty off just 20 balls, making it the third fastest in the Women’s Premier League. She smashed nine fours and eight maximums during her innings and strung a 125-run partnership with skipper Smriti Mandhana for the first wicket.

Bangalore chased down the competitive total of 189 runs in 15.3 overs after Devine’s scintillating knock. Smriti Mandhana and Co. play their final league match against table-toppers Mumbai Indians at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday, March 21.
