The eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) was played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday, March 18. The PSL title was crowned by last year’s winners Lahore Qaladars, defeating Multan Sultans by one run. Earlier, the summit clash was set to take place on Sunday at the same venue but the date has been changed due to the threat of rain.
Multan Sultans reached the final after defeating defending champions Lahore Qalandars by 84 runs in Qualifier 1. However, the Shaheen Afridi-led side thrashed the winner of Eliminator 1, Peshawar Zalmi by four wickets to secure their place in the final. Notably, the summit clash was a repeat of last year’s final.
Having won seven matches and three losses from their 10 league matches, Lahore Qalandars are in first place in the PSL 2023 points table. Multan Sultans, on the other hand, are placed in the second position at the point chart with 6 victories and 4 losses.
Multan Sultans skipper Mohammad Rizwan created history during Qualifier 1, completing 500 runs in 11 innings. He has scored 500 runs in three consecutive editions of the PSL and has become the first player to achieve this feat.
Earlier, Multan Sultans’ batter Usman Khan made history by smashing the fastest century in PSL. He scored a hundred from just 36 balls against Quetta Gladiators. Sultans also made history by scoring 262 in the same game, which is the highest total in the history of PSL. They broke the record of the highest total held by Islamabad United, which had recorded 247/2 against Peshawar Zalmi in 2021.
